Passing of Golden Eagle Spouse Dr./Mrs. Judy Harrison

It is my very sad duty to report the passing of Judy Harrison, spouse of Golden Eagle CAPT Jeff HARRISON, USN (Ret), on Monday 2 November 2026. Judy Marie Baker Harrison was born in 1951 on a farm in Albertville, Alabama. Wanting to get up and off the farm she put herself through the University of Alabama as a pre-med Major after high school. Following her graduation, she was accepted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School. In the early 70s she met Jeff and was engaged in 1973 during one of Jeff’s turn-around training periods. In July 1974 Judy and Jeff were married at the NAS Cecil Field, Florida Chapel. Now married and living in Jacksonville, she applied for and was accepted to the University of Florida Medical School. Additionally, she applied for the U.S. Navy’s Medical Education Program.

Upon graduation Judy was commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps and commenced her service at the NAS Jacksonville, Florida hospital. She worked her way through her internship and residency programs and became a staff member at the hospital. Towards the end of her obligation and while Jeff was an instructor pilot at VA-45 she discovered that Naval Officers, if they completed backseat qualifications could fly in Navy aircraft. After much “harassment” Jeff finally acquiesced and got her airborne. They logged 50 hours of cross-country time in the TA-4J together.

At the end of her obligated service, she went into private practice and became a Managing Partner at a Family Practice Clinic in Orange Park, Florida. A Navy move took Judy to California where she got certified in Emergency Medicine to provide her with more employment opportunities. During a NAS Lemoore, California tour, she became Director of the Emergency Room at the NAS Lemoore Hospital. After a move to NAS Coronado, California she continued making a difference at the Coronado Hospital Emergency Room.

Jeff’s retirement came in 1994 and a return to Orange Park, Florida brought Judy back to northern Florida and Emergency Medicine within the Baptist Hospital system. Judy retired in 2023 but continued to serve family and friends when called upon.

Judy and Jeff have two sons; Josh and Jason. They have five grandchildren and she is survived by her brother Ken Baker and her sister Brenda Baker DeGeorge. Judy and Jeff were married for 52 years. Judy / Mini-Doc will be sorely missed by all.

There will be a Celebration of Life in her honor early in 2027. The specific date and location will be announced.

In sadness,
Matt MOFFIT
Pilot
